What Is This Okwukwu Culture In Igboland? by ThatIgboBoy: 8:25am On Nov 19, 2017
I need an advice from the Igbo elders here.
I need an explanation on an omenala they call okwukwu in mbaise. I learnt it is also applicable in the whole Igbo land.
I lost my dad almost six years ago. I and my elder bro were just finishing nysc and still jobless then. so our uncles helped us in burying our dad.
last month I lost my grandma. That is when this tradition reared up. we have been getting calls that in our tradition, we bury our fathers with cow and unless we do that, we cannot participate in my grandma mothers burial like buying a cow for her or even eating cow meat. They said my dad killed a cow for his father and I remember seeing him do that even though I was about 6 then and that I can't be involved in doing anything for my grandma till I kill a cow for my dad. Failure to do so has it's consequences. It's been confusing.

So I will appreciate any explanations on this culture and it's relevance in this day and age

lalasticlala, you can also help out here. we all wanna learn
