The Man Who was Exonerated of Murder Charges After He was Almost Executed.

Two teenagers were shot to death on some bleachers overlooking a pool in Washington Park, on the South Side of Chicago, in 1982. Anthony Porter was blamed, convicted, and sentenced to die for the crime.

Fifty hours before Porter was to be killed by lethal injection, he received a stay of execution from the state supreme court, citing research that showed that his intelligence level was too low for him to understand what was going on.

The stay allowed further investigation into Porter's case, leading to the recanting of testimony by a key witness and the videotaped confession to the killings by another party on February 3, 1999.

Anthony Porter was freed from prison two days later.

I watched a movie similar to this. I can't remember the title though but this is the exact line of the story.

These mistaken convictions are happening in advanced societies despite the developed legal system! Just imagine nigeria where every conviction is almost by trial and error,no forensics or DNA analysis,no proper and adequate intelligence on the part of investigating officers, politically and financial influencable bar and bench!!! Numerous wrongful convictions and executions everyday. That is the major reason people are advocating against the death penalty. May God save us.

Being falsely accused by your own daughter of raping her several times is probably a father’s worst nightmare.

Because some of the evidence seemed so authentic.

Thomas Kennedy was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

After 9 years in jail, Cassandra, his daughter owned up to falsely accusing her father and confessed that the physical evidences of rape were because she had sexual relations with a boy in second grade.

The boy, already an adult by the time she revealed the truth, released a statement saying that what she said was indeed true.

A Nigerian father will curse this girl for life.

And what will that achieve?

@ explorers, I wish you could do something Nigerian based. There are many Nigerians in our justice system stuck in "awaiting trial" for years without ever seeing a court of law

Exactly my point too. That's just the difference between us and them.

Few days back, 5 men gained their freedom after they were wrongfully accused by SARS.

Did anyone else noticed that black people are the most accused falsely. And that the whites that were accused falsely and spent time in jail made more money than the blacks after been released?

Oh my oh my. Just imagine these true life events. The most painful of them all is the man that lost all his 7 children, and still go in for it. What a pity.

May we not suffer for what we know nothing about.

This thread just brought to mind a quite perplexing story I heard about an unlawful conviction of twin sisters in oko prison, benin city. The judge sentenced the identical twins to jail because there was no substantial evidence to prove which of the two of them committed the crime. It seemed the guilty one refused to plead guilty.

Hope this girl was sent to jail for life?

If she can falsely accuse her father and leave him to rot for 9 years then she can do it again,

OP. You obviously missed the "George Stinney" story. It's actually the worst wrongful conviction story of all time. It's very pathetic, sad and emotional at the same time. I cried till I ran out of tears.

"One of the most atrocious cases of injustice due to racial difference in the 20th century is George Stinney’s case. In 1944, George Stinney, a 14-year-old African American boy, was accused of murdering two white girls and convicted within 10 minutes by an all-white jury. He was then executed by electric chair."

"On April 24, the trial took place at Clarendon County Courthouse, and the entire proceeding took only one day. The all-white jury gave a guilty verdict within 10 minutes. Stinney was sentenced to death in the electric chair."

A 14 year old Canadian student was sentenced to death in 1959 for the murder of a classmate.

He was supposed to be the youngest person ever placed on death row but a temporary reprieve was granted to postpone the execution and eventually was commuted to life imprisonment.

Things turned around in his favor and almost 50 years later, Truscott was awarded $6.5 million in compensation after he was acquitted.

The Man Who Served the Longest Time in Prison Before He was Eventually Sprung By DNA Evidence

Imagine going from a few parking tickets to being locked away in prison for 35 years of your life for a crime you never committed.

That's what happened to James Bain, a Florida man who was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to life in prison for breaking and entering, kidnapping, and rape in 1974.

Bain maintained his innocence from day one, asking the courts for DNA testing.

A nonprofit called the Innocence Project Florida that is dedicated to helping exonerate the wrongfully convicted heard his case and decided to help him.

It's a good thing they did.

DNA evidence showed that Bain could never have committed the rape, and eight months later he was a free man.

The 35 years that Bain spent locked up is the longest time served by a person who was eventually freed thanks to DNA evidence.

Bain received $1.7 million in compensation from the state upon his release.

Rubbish, I would demand each jerry member to serve 1 year in jail each, next time they see a jury box they would flee

Two Innocent Men Who were Awarded $5 Million Following Nearly 18 Years of Wrongful Imprisonment.

After serving nearly 18 years of a 20-year prison sentence for the rape of a housekeeper, two men were set free and compensated in millions when DNA evidence exonerated them of the crime.

Larry Davis and Alan Northrup were locked away in Clark County, Washington in 1993 when DNA evidence wasn't available.

But when it did become available, the University of Washington's Innocence Project picked up the case and went to work, eventually freeing and exonerating Northrup and Davis in 2010.

The men settled with the county for $5.25 million each.

The black guy spent 35 years and got 1.7m, I see there's a lot to talk about here
