Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo had earlier said that he's "never seen anyone better than" himself after picking up his fifth Ballon d’Or on Thursday, drawing level with his great rival Lionel Messi.

He has said himself to be the greatest player in the history of the game. But is that true?

Spokesman for Barcelona's board of directors, Josep Vives, responded to Cristiano Ronaldo's comments, claiming Lionel Messi is actually the best player in the history of the game.

"Respect to the Ballon d'Or and to Cristiano Ronaldo," Vives said at a press conference.

"We have always considered Ronaldo to be a great player and a great competitor.

"But here at the Camp Nou, we can see the best player in history every 15 days, which is Messi."

BARCELONA midfielder Ivan Rakitic has waded into the debate over who is the world’s best footballer.

Unsurprisingly he has described Lionel Messi as best player in the history of the game over Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Croatia international said via Mundo Deportivo.
"You already know my opinion and I have a lot of respect for Cristiano, who is one of the best in history, but he has played with the best player in history, which is Leo Messi."
