Perfume is a generic name for nice smelling liquids worn to give good scents to the body. While some people wear perfumes to boost their self esteem ,others just want to smell really good while the rest wear perfumes to maximize their romantic appeal.it will be interesting to understand the steps in making perfumes .

1.SOURCING THE RAW MATERIALS
Some of the raw materials for perfume manufacture are flowers, spices ,grasses etc which their essences are extracted by a process called Expression in which the plants are crushed and squeezed till the oils are released, other methods are solvent extraction and steam distillation. Most of this processes yields a fraction of the oils needed for perfume, for example a 15 ml perfume is made from an average of 660 roses , still wonder why good perfumes are so expensive?

2. FORMULAR
After extracting the essential oils ,chemists then formulate the unique scent of the desired perfume, this can take series of laboratory tests and experiments and several months or years of effort. After getting the desired scent ,alcohols are then used to dilute the concoction. The amount of alcohol used in the dilution determines whether the product would be a Perfume, eau de toilette or cologne. Perfumes are least diluted while colognes are most diluted.

3. AGING
After getting the desired scent for the product, the product is allowed to age in a cool dark area ,where the alcohol binds deeply with the essentials oil extract ,usually perfumes come out stronger and nicer after the aging process .

4. CONFIRMATION
After aging, the products are tested once more to make sure they are of the desired quality with longer scent, any adjustment is done at this stage by either adding more extracts, alcohols or allowing more aging to occur .

5.STOCKING AND WAREHOUSING
The finished products are sent for the warehouse for stocking and distribution to the end users

Which Do you prefer perfumes ,eau de toillete or colognes ?
And what is the name ?

For me ,i prefer eau de toillete cos they are nice and soft ,yet they linger for a long while.
