JUST IN: Abducted Catholic priest, Rev. Father Cyril Effiong released

A Catholic priest kidnapped in Cross River, Rev. Father Cyril Effiong Essien, has been released.

A highly placed Catholic Church source hinted NAIJATRENDING that the victim was released along Egerton Street close to Catholic Church Cathedral.

Our reporter gathered that ransom was dropped for the kidnappers in an undisclosed location and the victim was released some hours later.

The Catholic Priest, Rev. Father Cyril Effiong Essien was kidnapped on Friday night at the Catholic Church in Awi, in Akamkpa local Government Area of Cross River State.

An eyewitness said that the incident occurred shortly after the Churchs evening program. He said over five heavily armed men invaded the church premises, shot on air and whisked the priest away.
