ARGOMENTO

The human mind is a complex entity in the light of exposure, experience, knowledge, maturity and environment. Humans differ in what they have gone through; no two humans are the same. In an argument, views and opinions often differ. There are measures to be put in place during an argument to avoid quarrel.

1. Learn to focus on the message or topic rather than the speaker.

2. Support your proposition with facts and not fallacy.

3. Make it soft, laughter is allowed. “The most wasted of all days is one without laughter” Cummings

4. Don’t argue with the intent of making people succumb to your view.

5. Present your facts and leave your opponent to digest and ruminate over your view. “Raise your words, and not your voice, it is rain that grows flowers, not thunders” Rumi. Shouting is not needed.

6. Always have it in mind that it is an intellectual battle, the victory is in the mind, no need for physical assault.

7. Always know when to step aside, don’t contradict yourself. “Silence is never more golden than when a quarrel is brewing”. Silence is an argument carried out by other means. Learn to be quiet when necessary.

8. Giving your opponent a listening ear makes an argument awesome and intellectual. “When people talk, listen completely, most people never” Earnest. Listening is as important as what you would say next.

9. An abuse to your opponent is a self rape of intelligibility. “Be calm in arguing for fierceness makes error a fault and truth discourtesy” George Herbert.

10. You may be glad to hear your opponent proposing your view in his next argument in another situation. That is the spirit.

11. “Immature people always want to win an argument, even at the cost of a relationship…” argument has broken several homes. Your relationships, friends are more important than an argument.

I conclude with this quote “fear not those who argue but those who dodge” Dale Carnegies.

Always live to argue another day.
