A Pennsylvania woman reportedly got a $284 billion electric bill: 'My eyes just about popped out of my head'
Thankfully, when she reached out to electric company, her bill was corrected to $284.46.
A company spokesperson suspected that the mistake was probably result of a misplaced decimal point.
Pennsylvania resident Mary Horomanski got a pre-holiday scare when she opened her electric bill earlier this month. It said that she owed $284 billion dollars, GoErie.com reported.
"My eyes just about popped out of my head," Horomanski told GoErie.com "We had put up Christmas lights and I wondered if we had put them up wrong."
But it would have taken some really wild Christmas lights to rack up a bill that huge. $284 billion is greater than the entire market value of Walmart (just $220 billion, according to CNN report from April.)
Here's a photo that Horomanski shared on Facebook on December 15, showing the bill's staggering total:
The bill noted that Horomanski didn't need to pay the full amount until next November. The minimum payment for December was just over $28,000.
"If we sell everything we own & then some just maybe in 100 years it just may be paid off," Horomanski wrote on Facebook.
When Horomanski's son reached out to Penelec, his mother's electricity provider, the company said they'd made an error. The actual total was only $284.46. GoErie got in touch with a spokesperson for Penelec's parent company, who didn't know how the error happened but suspected that a decimal point has been unintentionally moved.
"I can't recall ever seeing a bill for billions of dollars," Durbin told GoErie. "We appreciate the customer's willingness to reach out to us about the mistake."

That is in a sane clime, they corrected the bill.

In Nigeria, PHED or those other Discos would have cornered her and ask for bribe for the bill to be wiped off, that is after disconnecting the building and went away with the cables.

Nigeria, insane society.
