How do I back up my contacts on android please. What's the best way?

I mean in case phone is stolen the contacts can be retrieved from where it was backed up eg email?

You are using an android phone, store your contacts on Gmail and not your phone or simcard. Rule101.

What about contacts already on my phone and sim even before i got an android phone?

Your phone does it automatically through your Google Account.

But as an extra safety measure, you can back it up through Google Drive.

I can't acccess it from there. The only contacts there are email contacts.

Go to play store and download an app called super backup. It'll do the job for you. Make sure you choose backup and upload all contacts. Choose a Google account. To restore, simply download the app and sign in. The app saves a copy to your memory card too
