Kids are more exposed to hazards at home. This is because  they are very active and lack the ability to identify a hazard. Many parents often complain of their children being involved in home accident, ranging from fall from height, slipping, electric shock, burns, ingestion of harmful substances and others which have resulted in pains, financial lost and even death in some extreme cases. These would have been prevented with effective home safety tips for kids.

As a parents, it is our desire that our children be safe, hale and healthy and free from home accident. From history, many parents have reduced kids' home accident by the following  these home safety tips for kids.

1.Do not leave a child alone at home.

Since kids cannot identify a hazard, they should be under the care of a responsible adult at all times. Every of their where about at home should be monitored always.

2.Keep dangerous materials out of the reach of children.

Materials such as drugs, chemicals, sharp objects, hot surfaces, etc should be kept in places where the children cannot be able to access them. This may include keeping such items under lock or at heights unreachable to them.

3.Keep Children warmly clothed.

The body system of a child cannot withstand much cold, so keep that child warmly clothed always. Their feet should not be exposed to cold. kids should not be allowed to walk on cold floor like tiles, bare footed.

4.Avoid Spill on the floor.

The stability of kids is low, hence they are more prone to slip and fall accident than adults. A wet floor is a dangerous hazard that can cause bone fracture to a child. Ensure spills are immediately wiped off this is an important safety rule for kids.

5.Avoid naked electric wire.

Electric shock is hazardous to a child’s development. An exposed live wire in the home is a major source of electric shock to a child.  To apply  home safety  tips for kids, ensure all electrical installations are well coated and earthed to avoid current leakage.

6.Minimize Climbing to height.

Kids like adventure. They can climb to height at every available opportunity. This is a major cause of head injury and bone fracture in children.

7.Do not leave the children in the hand of strangers.

Due to financial constraints, most parents cannot afford the service of a nanny. Most often, the children are left in the care of neighbors or friends. To the kids, these people are strangers.  Their dedication to the child’s safety may not be guaranteed. Many children have been abused by such strangers.

8.Employ the service of a reputable Nanny.

There have been cases of some nanny caught on camera maltreating the child under their care, or kidnapping or selling them for money. What a tragedy!  It is very important to carry out due diligence before hiring a nanny.

9.Do not indulge in self medication when the child is sick.

Kids' health are delicate. Wrong drug administration can have a devastating effect on them. It is highly recommended, you consult the doctor for proper diagnosis when your child is sick.
