Addicted to/devoted to – :othe two words are used in expressions that mean that something has become someone’s habit. However, there is a slight misconception in the use of the two phrases. HOW? One is addicted to something that brings shameor something illegalor something that is out of good manners, e.g. someone may be addicted to drugs (or any other undesirable pleasure), WHILE One is devoted to something or someone that has no intension of reproach or losing one’s good manners, e.g. someone can be devoted to God (or every other good things like prayer or an event) Reference: Oxford Advanced Learner Dictionary (8th Edition) |
