The Vice Chancellor of Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo (FUNAI), Ebonyi State, Prof. Chinedum Nwajiuba, yesterday, commissioned a water project donated to the institution by a non-governmental organization, the Samuel Omogo foundation.
The borehole which is part of the organization’s corporate social responsibility is geared towards ameliorating the challenges faced by students in the area of portable water supply.

Welcoming the Foundation to the University, Prof. Nwajiuba thanked them for their benevolence, and called on other NGO’s to partner the University in other areas of need.
He maintained that life is all about giving, advising staff and students to stop holding back; rather they should use their talents and resources to contribute to the development of the University.
“We are called to build this University. That is God’s purpose for all of us. Please, stop holding back, for there is so much work to be done”, he said.
The Vice Chancellor further noted that his dream was to make the University the most green-campus in Nigeria and called on the members of the University community to plant trees and flowers to make the vision a reality.

In his speech, the Chief Executive Officer of the Samuel Omogo Foundation, Rev. Fr. Peter Omogo noted that the donation of a borehole to the University was spurred by the challenges he faced as a child, when he had to trek for a very long distance to be able to access water for the family.
He stressed that the goal of the Foundation was to leave a legacy by making a difference in the lives of people and communities, adding that life without legacy is worthless.

He further noted that through the collaboration the Foundation has with some Rotary clubs in Nigeria and United States of America, they have been able to build 190 boreholes in Ebonyi State, maintaining that the most important of all human needs is water. The reverend gentleman therefore used the opportunity to challenge the staff and students to work together, utilize their potential, skills and resources to make positive impact on their immediate environment and beyond.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Vice Chancellor’s Office, Bar. Grace Eze-Ali who attracted the project to the University thanked the donor for his kind-heartedness and selfless service to humanity through the execution of life-touching projects in different parts of Ebonyi State
She maintained that the borehole would help in preventing the outbreak of water-borne diseases such as cholera in the University.
There were musical and dance performances by some students of the University to spice-up the event.
