local or domestic Nigerian airlines let citizens and visitors fly to Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Enugu, Calabar, Abuja and other major cities within the country. International flights often belong to international corporations. Still, there are companies that offer both domestic and international flights.

Local airlines in Nigeria

1. Aero Contractors – 40 percent of shares are owned by the Ibru family and 60 percent are owned by AMCON (Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria).
2. Arik Air – owned by Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).
3. Allied Air Cargo – owned by Allied Air Limited (Valentine Tongo is the main shareholder).
4. Associated Aviation – owned by a group of investors (names are unknown).
5. Air Peace – owned by Allen Onyema.
6. Azman Air Services LTD – owned by Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina.
7. Dana Air – rumored to be owned by the Indian company Dana Group.
8. Chanchangi Airlines – privately owned by Alhaji Ahmadu Chanchangi (94 percent of shares) and 4 other people (names unknown).
9. Dornier Aviation AIEP LTD – 40 percent of shares are privately owned by Nigerians and 60 percent belongs to foreign investors.
10. Firstnation Airways – owned by Kayode Odukoya.
11. IRS Airlines – used to be owned by Isyaku Rabiu.
12. Kabo Travels / Air – privately owned by Kabo Air Travels Ltd.
13. Med-view Airline – rumored to be owned by Sheik Abdul Moshen Rahman Al-Thunayan.
14. Overland Airways – owned and controlled by Overland Airways Limited.

11. Ethiopian Airlines – owned by the government of Ethiopia.
12. Ghana Airways – 60 percent of shares are owned by the government and the rest belongs to BOAC.
13. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines – is a part of the Air France Group since 2004.
14. Kenya Airways – 48.9 percent of shares are owned by the government of Kenya, 38.1 percent is owned by KQ Lenders Company, 7.8 percent stake is owned by KLM.
15. Lufthansa German Airlines – owned by public investors from Germany, the USA, Luxembourg, the UK, and Ireland.
16. Middle East Airlines – 99.5 perfect of shares are owned by Banque du Liban (the Lebanon’s central bank).
17. Qatar Airways – owned by the Qatari government.
18. Saudi Air - owned by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
19. VirginAtlantic – owned by English businessman Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson.
20.South African Airlines – owned by the government of South Africa.
21. Turkish Airlines – the Turkish government owns 49.12 percent of shares and 50.88 percent is publicly traded.
