Man mistakes neighbour’s house for his own, kills owner, thinking he’s an intruder

A landlord has lost his life in circumstances that investigators describe as bizarre.

The man, a homeowner in Missouri, United States of America, was reportedly in his own house when a drunk approached him.

A statement from Raytown Police claims he said “he had the intruder pinned down in his front yard.”

They arrived to find him a block away from his own home.

The encounter led to the death of the house owner, reports say, as the intruder had reportedly mistaken his victim’s house for his own, and under the influence of alcohol, he had strangulated his victim to death.

He had thought the neighbour was an intruder in his (criminal) own house.

As reported by the local medium, Kansas City, a Missouri man was charged with involuntary manslaughter after he allegedly went to his neighbour’s home, thinking it was his own.

He then choked the homeowner to death, ostensibly in self-defence.

Police say the suspect was drunk at the time.

The suspect, Michael Augustine, 43, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after choking Clifton King, 60, in his Missouri home.

Raytown Police officials suspect Augustine, who appeared to be smiling in his mugshot, was drunk at the time.

Cops rushed to the scene when Augustine called 911 to report an intruder.

A statement from Raytown Police claims he said “he had the intruder pinned down in his front yard.”

They arrived to find him a block away from his own home, restraining King in a choke hold.

The victim did not have a pulse and was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Officers said Augustine, who apparently smelled of alcohol and was slurring his speech, said: “That’s right. I f***ed him up.”

King’s neighbour, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he was a military veteran.

They said: “He served our country and that was not an honorable way to treat him.”

“Someone had to give up their life because someone was so messed up they didn’t know it wasn’t their home.”

The maximum sentence for first-degree involuntary manslaughter is 10 years in jail.
