Does this country have a sports policy? Or we adopted “hit or miss” approach of administering sports in our country Nigeria. Successive governments have paid lip service to the development of sports in the country, with the administrators at all levels of government “vehemently”pursuing the glory that football may bring to the eternal neglect of other sports.If all the so called lesser sports in Nigeria are properly administered they will surely bring glory to fatherland as they once did in years gone by (Oliver Orok –Weightlifting, Innocent Egbunike – 400M,Peter Koyengwashi – Olympic boxing ,Yusuf Ali – long jump ,Atanda Musa – Table tennis, Olawunmi Majekodunmi, Falilat Ogunkoya,Hogan Bassey,Fatuba -100M,Ajunwa –Long Jump) and some have done in recent years – (Aruna Quadri – Table tennis, Chukwumerije – Takekwondo, D’Tigress – Basketball, etc).

While it’s good that the powers that be and those that have oversight function on sports are taking interest in their job description (the sports committee members of the National Assembly are worried about the preparations of the Super Eagles for the world cup, Russia 2018, AMAZING!) it’s worthy of note that they haven’t done justice to other sports other than football. For clarity the football the National assembly members are worried about is strictly Super Eagles. The CHAN team are in Morocco performing wonders ,not once did we hear the National assembly or sports ministry raise any fears to the football authorities about the haphazard preparation they had before traveling for the Africa Nations Championship taking place in Morocco.
