…seeks Israeli support

The indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has decried the persecution of Judeo-Christians in Nigeria by the federal government while calling on the Israeli government to rise to the occasion given they are the “custodians of the Judaic faith.”

In a recent press statement by Comrade Emma Powerful, media and publicity secretary, the group, referring to a purported repeated raid of places of worship in Aba and Igweocha-Port Harcourt and detention of the worshippers by undisclosed security agents, accused the federal government of sponsoring the actions.

They described the act as the government’s retaliation over the recent announcement by President Trump that the US recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
IPOB also declared Biafra an organisation that borders her activities on Judeo-Christian traditions.

Excerpts from the statement read; “It is on record that IPOB activities are firmly anchored on the finest Judeo-Christian traditions, which has made Biafrans and IPOB in particular the target of these state sponsored indiscriminate and arbitrary arrests of innocent citizens by agents of Nigerian government.

“Since President Trump announced US recognition of Jerusalem as the eternal capital of Israel, the wave of arbitrary arrests and persecution of Biafrans that practice Judaism in Aba and Igweocha (Port Harcourt) have dramatically increased. Nigerian government, by toeing this path, is setting a very ugly and dangerous precedent…”

IPOB, therefore, called Israel and the world to “prevail upon Nigeria to desist from this blatant persecution and release those in their custody.”

It would be recalled that Shalom Synagogue Church of Israel, Aba was raided by the DSS and the police last week and some members were arrested and detained. While Orient Daily is yet to ascertain from the security operatives what informed the raid and arrest, an anonymous source alleged that the synagogue came under the radar of the security operatives because of a tip off that some clandestine activities where being carried out in the worship centre.

It is also pertinent to note that true to the claim of IPOB of allegiance to Judaic faith, public gatherings of the group are usually marked by groups of men and women garbed in cloths with Judaic markings and engaged in making prayers and chanting in Jewish-like manner.
