1. SITE CLEARANCE.

After a land has been purchased and construction work is to commence, the first basic thing to do is to clear the site to construct on.
There will definitely be trees,shrubs and other plants to get rid of and it's only done in two ways:
1.MANUAL METHOD,
2.MECHANICAL METHOD.

1.MANUAL METHOD: This involves man's activities on the site clearance with manual tools.
2.MECHANICAL METHOD:This involves the use of machines. NOTE:not all machine (are) to be used depending on how the topography of the land is and other things like maybe the area looks like a forest which will surely require greater services.

Settingout and excavation
equipments used for excavation and other discussion is the next.

Before proceeding,it's important to note that site accomodation is essential and also material storage.

Setting out involves the transfer of the information on the building drawing to the ground with high degree of accuracy.

sitting out equipments includes;

1.measuring tape,
2.profiles,
3.datum pegs,

method of setting out a building are the following;

1.using the theodolite,
2.using 3,4,5 method,
3. using the builder's square

EXCAVATION.

excavation is done to receive the foundation that will be constructed for a building and it is done after setting out and marking out.
It is done using two method;manual and mechanical method.
NOTE: the choice of excavation depends on the size of work and also note that for small construction,it's more economical to use the manual method.

MANUAL METHOD;

it's a normal method quite frequent most of us know but they include pick-axes used to dig up the soil,shovels to remove the dug up soil,spades to level the bottom of the excavation and to load into the wheelbarrow,wheelbarrows to convey the excavated soil away from the excavation area.

Equipment for mechanical excavation includes;
bulldozer,backacter,mechanical auger,dump truck,tipper truck.

Timbering: This is the process of providing temporary support to the sides of an excavation is called timbering also called planking and also called strutting.
Timbering is to provide the operatives while working in excavation,
keep the excavation open by acting as a retaining wall to the sides of the trend,
prevent drainage to adjacent structures that could be caused by excavation,
Enable work to proceed within the excavation without interruption.
