Nokia, Sony, Oppo, LG, HTC, 13 Others To Launch 5G Smartphones: Qualcomm

According to the latest reports, it seems that the telecom companies are quite eager to implement the 5G as soon as possible. The giant chip manufacturer Qualcomm recently announced that 18 major manufacturers will adopt its 5G modem from 2019. The list includes Sony, Asus, LG, HTC, Nokia/HMD, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, ZTE, Sharp, Fujitsu, among others.

Telecom companies are quite eager to implement the 5G as soon as possible. The new technology promises to achieve speeds of 1 Gb/s (gigabit per second) in the download, and reduce latency.

The giant chip manufacturer Qualcomm recently announced that 18 major manufacturers will adopt its 5G modem from 2019. The list includes Sony, Asus, LG, HTC, Nokia/HMD, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, ZTE, Sharp, Fujitsu, among others.

However, the South Korean giant Samsung is not on the list but announced a partnership with the giant chip manufacturer Qualcomm last month to work on 5G technology in the coming years. As the South Korean giant Samsung has been preparing its own solutions for the fast mobile internet.


There are two other important tech companies absent in the list. The tech giant Apple would be considering using the giant chip maker Intel’s modems after a complex legal dispute with the giant chip manufacturer Qualcomm. While the well-known Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei, the world’s third-largest smartphone maker, is also not mentioned.

It’s no use making 5G devices if the operators do not adopt the technology. That’s why the giant chip manufacturer Qualcomm also announced that 18 companies will be testing next-generation networks on the X50 modem.

The list includes TIM, which recently activated the first 5G antenna in the Italian city of Turin, reaching a record 20 Gb/s. We also have operators like AT&T, Verizon, Vodafone, Deutsche Telekom, NTT Docomo and China Mobile.

The 5G won its first official specification in December – it’s the Non-Standalone 5G NR (New Radio). 3GPP, the organization that defines telecommunications standards, is now preparing the Standalone 5G, which will serve as a guide for operators and manufacturers.
