For the bravery of a petrol tanker driver and the quick intervention of rescue officers of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), some residents of Mushin community, Lagos Mainland would have suffered an irreparable loss yesterday, Monday, February 12, 2018.
Eyes Of Lagos gathered from the residents that at about 2:00 pm yesterday, a petrol laden tanker was being driven along the Olorunshogo axis of Mushin community. In the process, the tanker suffered a brake failure.
It, however, took the bravery of the tanker driver who in the twinkle of an eye, screamed at passerby and other motorists to alert them about the situation. He also swerved off the road to face the opposite lane where he almost crushed an oncoming vehicle and the properties of the Zenith and Guaranty Trust Banks in the area.
Residents and other onlookers were however left in awe of the entire happenings with the driver able to save the entire area from being wrecked by an explosion.

A resident of Mushin community, Aribigbe Afeez who spoke to InsideMainland about the incident said: “I am just getting over the shock. The entire thing happened so fast. It was like a magician performing a trick on everyone present. All I heard was the driver was screaming at the top of his voice while the motor boy quickly opened the tanker door to run for safety.
“The driver was able to control the tanker from colliding with the GTB entrance. If that had happened, a lot of lives and properties would have gone with it. I salute the driver’s courage.”
Meanwhile, Eyes Of Lagos gathered that the officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) quickly mobilized to the incident scene to prevent a blast associated with such accidents.
The officials we learnt cordoned off the area with the assistance of men of the Fire Service. The tanker was subsequently fixed and has been moved out of the area.

Recall that a similar occurrence occurred on the Lagos Mainland in December 2015 when a petrol tanker fell off the Ojuelegba bridge, Ikorodu road, Lagos Mainland, claiming properties worth several millions of naira in the process.
During the explosion, about four houses and cars parked in the area were lost to the inferno which occurred after a petrol tanker spilled its contents on the road.

This is the kind of reportage I like....

Despite the sad incidence and near calamity, the reporter still find the space to make a hero out of the driver..... Na so reporting suppose be.... Less blame and more complimentary
