Coming to Nigeria…cyber security for aspiring practitioners
Join the cyber army by taking your first step onto the cyber security career ladder

Digital Information Security Solutions (DIGISS), a cyber security training and consulting firm headquartered in San Antonio, Texas (and registered in Nigeria) is introducing its flagship training course, cyber security for aspiring practitioners (CSAP), to the Nigerian market.

CSAP 301 is primarily targeted at current IT professionals or enthusiasts seeking to make a career switch to cyber security. Given that these individuals already have the required IT skills and experience, their transition to the field of cyber security should be seamless. Additionally, fresh graduates and senior university students seeking relevant skills and hands-on experience that differentiate them from other graduates and students will benefit immensely from the course. Nigeria, with its 142 universities and over 110 polytechnics, produces an average of 2 million graduates every year. In order for most of these graduates to be market ready, they will need to complement their “book knowledge” with very important IT and cyber security skills.

Digiss was born out of the need to address organizational cyber security challenges and chief among those challenges is the task of finding the right cyber security professionals to fill the rapidly widening talent gap in the field.

Nigeria, being Africa’s largest economy and the 21st in the world, cannot afford to pay little attention to cyber threats in this age where businesses are driven by information systems. In May 2017, the Nigerian senate stated that the country lost $450 million to about 3,500 cyber attacks on its information and communication technology space. “The cyber threat problem is real even in a developing country like Nigeria. The good news though, is that, cyber adversaries can be defeated through adherence to best practices and fundamental security principles”, said Mobolaji Moyosore, Founder and President at Digiss LLC. “Nigeria has an unbelievable wealth of energetic and talented young men and women whose positive energy can be favourably harnessed to secure, among others, its rapidly growing e-commerce business, financial services, information technology and telecommunications sectors.

Some of the biggest technology companies in the world have discovered and tapped into the Nigerian promise. Facebook and Google are 2 global fortune 500 companies whose CEOs have both been to Nigeria in the last 2 years for similar reasons. Although cyber regulations in the country are not as strong as they should be (yet), it remains very important to view cyber security as a key business enabler and major pull factor for foreign investors. This is why it's extremely important to focus on building an army of enterprise defenders who will afterwards be very capable of making the task of cyber adversaries much harder.

Having enough well trained, competent and highly skilled cyber security practitioners is fast becoming a critical success factor for the modern day economy. Some of the world's most dominant economies have realized this and are continually doing everything possible to address the talent gap. For instance, the UK government, as part of its National Cyber Security Strategy, has designed the Cyber Skills Immediate Impact Fund (CSIIF) to quickly address the cyber skills shortage in the UK while the United States will be spending $80 billion on IT and Cybersecurity in 2018 alone. This amount is three times the size of Nigeria's budget for the same year. The modern day economy is supported by information systems therefore the security of those systems cannot be optional. To this end, availability of skilled cyber security professionals and enforcement of cyber regulations are two crucial factors that the leadership of any developing economy needs to take seriously.

Knowing what makes a competent cyber security practitioner, members of the DIGISS team are committed to developing and mentoring business-focused and market ready professionals. Our wealth of cyber security knowledge - acquired through formal and informal training, peer networking, independent research, participations at industry conferences, and years of experience protecting digital assets of organizations in different verticals - positions us as one of the leading developers of cyber security talents.

As aspiring practitioners seek to gain the right knowledge and skills in this field, they will come across several training courses with a lot of content but minimal context. This program provides a fair balance between content and context. The instructors at DIGISS are highly experienced professionals with several highly sought after certifications. Despite focusing only on knowledge and skills required to satisfactorily defend and support organizational digital assets, this course compares favorably with other popular cyber security training and certification programs like Security+, CISSP, and SANS GSEC.

Students who successfully complete the entire course and examination will become DIGISS Certified Cyber Security Associates (DCCSA).
DCCSA exam is currently undergoing accreditation under American National Standards Institutes' (ANSI) personnel credentialing program. ANSI is the accrediting body for ISC2 (CISSP), Comptia (Security+), GIAC (GSEC), Cisco (CCNA, CCNP) etc.
This course will move anyone with the desire to become a cyber security professional closer to their goal by giving them a good insight into what the role of an enterprise defender entails. This is done through illustrations and practical demonstrations of daily activities of a typical cyber security professional in an enterprise environment.
Rather than teach students to memorize concepts and pass any certification exam, this course teaches students to grasp concepts and retain knowledge through threaded discussions, activity-based learning, and practical hands-on sessions.
If you’ve always wanted to get into cyber security but didn’t know where to start, here is your recommended starting point.
