Boko Haram releases 110 Dapchi girls

Reports reaching Irohinoodua have indicated the release of 110 girls kidnapped earlier by Islamic group, Boko Haram. Sources said the girls were not rescued by security operatives but were brought voluntarily by Boko Haram members. Dapchi residents erupted in jubilation as the girls were brought unexpectedly by the insurgents.

"Insurgents brought the Dapchi girls this morning. They looked tired and hungry. They were in a dejected mood", a reliable source told Irohinoodua today. The release of the girls came on the heels of intensive negotiation by the military. As at press time, it was uncertain how much the Nigerian authorities paid to secure the release of the kidnapped girls. The 110 girls were said to have been brought into Dapshi town in several trucks driven by Boko Haram members. Speaking on the release of the girls, an official of the NIgerian Human RIghts Community, (NHRC) Mr Suleiman Hassan told Irohinoodua that the release of the girls was a positive signal for President Mohammadu Buhari. "Whatever was the cost of securing their release, the President should be commended for his pro-active measures.

None of the members of the Islamic group was attacked by security operatives as they brought the girls and later drove back into their base, indicating that the security operatives may have had earlier negotiation with well defined terms for the return of the girls by the Islamic group.
