The vehicle uses a different Toyota Next-Generation Architecture that’s 57 percent stiffer and sports a 1.2-inch longer wheelbase.
The 2019 RAV4 comes with two new powertrains. The base is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. There's also a hybrid powertrain that pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor which are connected to a CVT.
There are three different all-wheel-drive systems, including a typical all-wheel drive, hybrid all-wheel drive, and a torque vectoring all-wheel-drive system with Driveline Disconnect (the ability to disconnect the rear axle when it’s not needed).
A multi-terrain select system comes with non-hybrid models.
The well-laid-out interior features a new Entune 3.0 multimedia system with a 7-inch screen. All RAV4 models get Verizon-powered Wi-Fi, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Car Play integration. There’s no Android Auto, though.
Qi wireless charging and an 11-speaker JBL premium audio system are available.
Firsts, in terms of equipment, for the RAV4 include a panoramic moonroof, ventilated seats, 7-inch instrument cluster screen, and a rearview mirror display camera that shows your blind spots right inside the rearview mirror.
All new RAV4s get Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of technology, including forward collision control with pedestrian detection and automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
Toyota also added automatic high-beams, traffic sign recognition, and lane-tracing assist.
