FUTA ALUMNI WIN 10 OUT OF 20 MASTER CARD INTERNATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR AFRICA Ten alumni of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) have done the Institution proud by winning a sizable percentage of the 20 Master Card International Scholarship Award for African students. The Master Card Scholarship Award is an annual competition organized for graduates in sub- Saharan African Countries by Master Card International and winners undertake their Master’s Degree programme at a designated foreign university. This year out of the 20 slots allotted to Africa, Nigeria won 12 out of which 10 of the slots were taken by FUTA students via a competitive assessment carried out by the organisers. The Ten FUTA alumni will proceed to the University of British Columbia (U.B.C.), Canada for their master’s programme. The scholarship covers tuition fees, accommodation, monthly stipends and a return ticket. An elated Vice-Chancellor, Professor Joseph Adeola Fuwape, while receiving the alumni described them as pride to the University. The Vice Chancellor commended the students saying that their success proved that FUTA has attained an enviable height academically. He said the Scholarship Programme will open more doors of opportunity if they remain focused. Professor Fuwape charged the students to keep the FUTA Flag Flying and be worthy ambassadors of the institution and be determined to distinguish themselves as world class citizens. He commended Professor Shadrach Akindele, immediate past dean of the School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology, for facilitating the visit of the scholarship winners and ensuring that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between FUTA and the University of British Columbia (U.B.C.), |
