Runtown is an ingrate. I have no doubt that he's talented but I have serious concerns for how he has chosen to handle this issue. For what's worth, This record label produced the Runtown that music fans all over the country and beyond know today. Why would he turn around overnight and decide to drag his destiny helpers through this ugly path of ridicule all because he wants to garner public empathy to himself. This is unfair to say the least. They should find a way of reaching a compromise without all these embarrassments. Finally, to Eric Manny and other label owners who enslave their artists with lopsided contracts, it's high time you guys applied conscience in business. How can 75-80% of an artist's intellectual proceeds be going to one man who poses as a label Boss? This is unfair and insane to say the least. This is the reason artists keep breaking lose from the shackles of your contracts and setting up their own labels even when they know they don't know and have their way around the industry. This is killing the industry. You all should have a rethink please.

Record labels can charge 99% (if they want) as long as they don't force artists to sign. The only ways around it will be to shop around for better labels, be independent or don't sign at all. Once you sign the dotted lines, it becomes your problem.

Harmless greed as exemplified by record labels is not a crime.

Oga before you speak, read up... Its not about contract, the contract ends in a months time or so... Runtown has seen that contract to its logical end... Eric Manny has been sucking him dry and have been looking for ways to swindle more money off him, including claims that he owes them millions.... They don't want to let him go when the contract expires... That's the koko of the matter.

In the so-called developed countries, nobody renegotiates any signed contract--it is binding. The best they do is buy out the contract when they "blow". Once the contract is up, they can renegotiate better deals based on experience and fame.
Otherwise, record label bosses are in it for the last cents they can squeeze out of their proteges. The initial quest for fame and clout has always been their undoing.

Of course I know that u can't renegotiate a contract that has been signed already Bt I was only referring to contracts given after the first one when the artiste was yet to blow as we say here ,obviously u can't renegotiate in the middle of s contract nah because it's binding on both parties...

Nigeria is just a mess. This kind of mishap happening cos the system is just too porous. How can an unstable person like this even own a record label?

If he truly resorted to gun threats and violence on his artist instead of legal action he's just a clear case of money-miss-road.

Nigerian artists especially upcoming artists need sense. You blindly sign off your future out of desperation to blow then start crying foul when it's time to honour your contract.
Showbiz really is a business don't let the lights and camera fool ya, never get it twisted.
