Oh boy! Any decision you ever have to make about your job is a huge deal. One wrong move and you may end up feeding from
hand to mouth or regretting your decision for the rest of your life.
In fact, before making any career decision if you think fasting and praying is the way to go, then, by all means, go for that.
In the event that you have the opportunity of leaving your present job, it is easy to tell
you to take it, especially if they are offering you more benefits or more pay. However,
what if it is a startup that no one knows about or a place where you would have to settle for less? It would even be easier to say
that you may take the job with the startup if it opens you up to more experiences. But what if you have a family depending on you
and the startup does not flourish? Can you dare to jeopardize their well-being with a reckless career decision?
Thinking of all these things can be
burdensome but this is the point where I would beseech you to look at the bigger picture. It is not easy but try.
You must consider where the job might put you a couple of years down the line. Does it
open you to more opportunities? Will you have the chance to climb the corporate ladder effortlessly? What kind of bosses do
you have? Can they impart much on you and would they be willing to? What kind of work
environment would it be?
Other than the pay and whatever
inconveniences may arise from taking the job and how the company wishes to make
up for that, these questions are the important things to ponder on before you decide on whether to stay or leave.
