House, be careful of ads on NAIRALIST that have no contact phone numbers and office addresses but only email address. They are not traceable and not real. Their adverts could be appreciated for fine car pictures ONLY and not for any serious consideration or commitment. such names as Gatewayautos, prestineautos . A word they say is enough for the wise.

thanks

I don't think its a preorder mess, but the autosection mess.

All this will only get worse until it finally implodes; unregulated, unsecured marketplace based on trust.

Might I add - implosion fueled by NL credibility

A couple of years back this thread was mainly auto discussion with few listings, then the discussions slowed to a trickle with more listings.

We complained and the best Mod could do was to create all discussion thread(huge mistake), basically meaning if you have anything to discuss go to this thread, to sellers section is all yours.

If anyone opens this section at anytime the first page is a bump by 3 sellers(reminds me of the old Oshodi sidewalk)

When larryshow4 bumps 4 posts on Cotonou cars, femmy2010, bumps another 3 on Cotonou deals,Adelambi with unending testimony from unending buyers. Soon someone will set up e-check point to collect 'owoile' and finally turn this place into autoshodi section.
If someone said this section will turn to this mess we have 2 yrs ago I would have said never, but we are only Nigerians sorry for the name callingĀ

All this will only get worse until it finally implodes; unregulated, unsecured marketplace based on trust.

Mobile phones and the internet!!! What will it not cause? Let me add my own experience this last week. I was looking to buy a 2001 4runner, which to my amazement is not readily available in the market. I said okay, let me do the alternative, a Pathfinder. So to Nairaland i turn, and i saw this splendid wine colored one listed by EMESHOT. I scheduled an inspection and drove from Lekki to Ajao Estate, wife and son in tow - a bloody waste of time considering that i charge my services per hour (i am a corporate lawyer, see). This fellow, this EMESHOT fellow, after keeping me waiting for nearly 45 minutes; seated in my car - he had no office, even though he had represented to me that his office is somewhere in that vicinity - surfaced from God knows where with another fellow and they both came up with this story of how the car had been moved to Apapa that morning. They didn't even know where the car was supposedly moved to in Apapa, just that it had been moved. I dont know what their game was, but i am too street wise to play along. I told both of them, very nicely - you never know what the game is so it's better to be nice - to get lost. I cut my losses and drove back to my office in VGC.

The moral of this story:
1. I can never part with money for what i can't physically see and touch, at least not to somebody i haven't known for a while. And i am talking known as in his residence, wife, kids etc. I ADVICE EVERYBODY ON NAIRALAND TO DO SAME. (Pre order my foot)

2. We all have a duty of care to each other (all Nairalanders) to quickly raise an alert to any scam and scammer(s); to name and shame, and ensure other unsuspecting Nairalanders dont fall into the hands of these idiots and nuisances.

You got it wrong. Busy_body was not referring to you. She knows my contribution as a honest dealer on thorny issues in the past on nairaland was fair and straight. Anyway, I did not contribute to the post because someone along the line said what I needed to say, so I decided to keep mute and read other interesting contributions.

In case you have any score to settle with busy_body, look for a better way of doing it rather than arrogating someone's username with yours.

Nairalanders be very careful of pre-order- See the picture below

Ikamo

Please do not fail to update us as some of us are keenly interested in the outcome of this development.

This should serve as a most valuable lesson to all those who barked and barked and refused to bite the scammer. Ikamo quietly worked and now we can see the results of his effort
!
Kudos!

At this public forum, advertisers should submit their pictures, verifiable address of business premises, so as to make fraudsters traceable,be caught and punished.
This forum has being a great source of info and should be protected for generations.
Kudos to Seun for this great job.

Its a public free forum so by it's very nature this can't happen, if Seun decided to impliment this and recover his costs by charging N200 per ad, 99% of the traders would disappear.

It's unfortunate that for every "INSPIRED" there are "PTCONSULTS" for those of us who have been here a while the AGRIAUTOS standout like a sore thumb, but for those new and the less internet savy it will always be a problem, especially where you have the 419ers who actually know what they are doing and take their time to establish a decent posting record.

i think this is a valid point. peeps here post all sort of rubbish because there are no restrictions and it's free.
Re: The Preorder Mess by metrixauto: 12:42pm On Sep 24, 2010
As we have genuine dealer who preorder,so also we have fake and dubiuos ones,a point i will make is that preordering car save you some money to your pocket, also preodering car will make you buy the car as they are, what it means by that is that when yu preorder within a time limit mostly 45-50 days max,it will be difficult for anybody to sell salvaged cars to you as a clean auction car, because 80% of cars that are sold are all salvaged but there is no way you as a buyers can know,in this regard wen buying cars always asked for A CARFAX REPORT/HISTORY OF THE CAR,to be sure your car is not a salvaged ones,so my advice is that wen you want to preorder your car carry out your due dilligent about the dealer, and also asked for the dealership licence of such person/dealer to confirm the real status, because a lot of people claimed to be buying cars without being a licence dealer in America. We in METRIX AUTOS Condem this act and also dissociate ourself from these scandalous people,we need to let the good people of Nigeria Know that we are registered and licenced dealer in the state of Maryland USA we are also a licenced dealer/Member in MAINHEM GROUP INTERNATIONAL,which is the largest autos aunction market in the world which also specialise on only CLEAN AUCTION CARS.We guarantee you the quality of cars we buy for you,we do not buy salvaged cars and we also give you the carfax report to assure you the clean auction title of your car. Thanks you.

SO this thing is still raging?

Well, we all should be alert and do our due diligence before committing
I am just saddened that this negative image will affect honest ones like me.
Nevertheless, God for us all and happy independence to everyone!!!

Pre-order is not only good but it saves money. I have been buying Cars for people sight unseen from USA for about 2yrs now and they are stunned and surprised with what i got for them for a Cheaper price but only for close relations and families and i got lots of referrals too.

Can anyone also believe i met my USA dealer physically in Nigeria just this year after a year of transacting with him without any Complain. I do acknowledge the fact that there are bad eggs out there spoiling the good ones but ones name and integrity have to be protected. Watch out for my upcoming Cars on NL.

I'm catching fun on NL reading so many comments, discussion forum and reviews.

@ George and Jumpstart, thx bro,

I have been reading comments and reviews from both sellers, buyers and observers for more than 1hr. My Question is Vin or no Vin,most Nigerian buyers can not buy a clean title car in Nigeria cos most sellers wants a good deal for a cheaper price forgetting that nothing good comes easy so i will implore buyers to be reasonable with their pricing to avoid buying cars too good to be true. It took me almost 9months to sell a Clean Title 2004 Nissan Quest last year for a reasonable price but luckily for me it was sold to someone who appreciated the Transparency shown.

More-so on accident or non-accidental cars, the level and degree of accident really matters and to someone who said accidental Cars are cheaper in USA,i disagree. Its the level of the accident, type of title and millage that really determine the cost of purchase in USA

@ Seun thx for sharing your view on Vin or no Vin issue, i implore buyers to also be reasonable with their pricing as cheap price may be too good to be true, we know money isn't easy to come across but transparency shown by honest dealers should also be appreciated. Happy Weekend NLs

i believe no right reason person will pre-order car in this days, what about of the car does not land safely? what about if you dont like the car?lots of things can happen in transit even if the sell have good intention so let him import his car and you buy when you can see the value for your money than put your miney were your hand can get to and you know you dont have a visa to America so such situation can go from bad to worse
