It doesnt make any sense. Why does Canada Govt keep those borders open is still a question left unanswered. They clearly have their motives.
How do you man one of the longest borders in the world?
I think that is the question that should be asked.

They should deport every single violator of visa stipulations back to Nigeria. Every single one. If you want asylum, apply through the stipulated channels. If you travel on a visitor's visa, return after the stipulated time rather than hiding around. Africans should be part of the solutions to the problems of the continent rather than trying to infest the rest of the world with their problems. Trust Nigerians to always be the most desperate. They saw Haitians moving to Canada, so trust them to hijack the process, the same way they saw Syrians, Libyans etc fleeing war to Europe and Nigerians hijacked the process too and became the no.1 illegal migrants to Europe. The funny thing is it wasn't people besieged by Boko Haram in Borno or Yobe that were fleeing to Europe but Edo, Igbo and Yoruba people wasting thousands of dollars that they could have invested into businesses to pay traffickers to aid them in their North African and Mediterranean crossing. These destination countries have to start being pretty ruthless if they want to end the illegal migrant siege.
From what the Canada border official observed, the haitans have been in the US for several years and are only moving ilegally north after trump threatened to cancel the visa program they were on, but he said the Nigerians were simply applying for American visas from their home country only to appear a few weeks later trying to cross ilegally to Canada despite the several legal means of migrating. We are just a nation or people always looking for short cuts and ilegal ways of doing things.
Things do not work that way in developed countries. There is no shortcut to any good thing in life.

Can you answer a simple question?

Is the US security check one of the most stringent in the world or not?
O0oo
Or why are you trying so hard to appear f**lish?

-Lord

If this makes you feel better, yes it is true US security check is one of the most stringent in the world but it is not as stringent as Canada own because everyone that enters Canada is accounted for. And we don't have to deal with so many foolishh people as US do. The only fools we deal with are the ones from united states, and I hope you are not one of them grin cheesy

Re: Nigerians Are Walking Into Canada From U.S. Seeking Asylum - Washington Post. by Nobody: 7:21pm On Apr 29, 2018
You know that what they do is pass through the illegal routes. Get arrested then seek asylum in Canada. You cannot seek asylum if you entered the U. S or Canada legally. So basically they are using the U. S as an avenue to enter Canada illegally an seek asylum in Canada. Canada is also more lenient to asylum seekers. So it's a win win. I believe if your asylum request is granted then you can file for PR in Canada and get a job. I think it's Canada that should fix their loopholes but till then people will keep making use of such loopholes.

Nigerians are not the No 1 illegal immigrants to Europe.Syria,Iraq and Afgahnistan are the top illegal migrants in Europe. Nigerians are only one of the top nationalities of asylum seekrs in Italy.
Citizenship of first-time applicants: most from Syria and Iraq
Syria was the main country of citizenship of asylum seekers in the EU Member States in 2017, a position it has held each year since 2013. In 2017, the number of Syrian first-time asylum applicants in the EU-28 fell back to 102 thousand from 335 thousand in 2016, while the share of Syrians in the EU-28 total dropped from 27.8 % to 15.8 %. Despite this drop, Syria was the main country of citizenship in fourteen EU Member States.

Iraqis accounted for 7 % of the total number of first-time asylum applicants and Afghanis for 7 %, while Nigerians and Pakistanis accounted for 6 % and 5 % respectively.

Among the most numerous groups of citizenship of first-time asylum applicants in the EU-28 in 2017, the largest relative increases compared with 2016 were recorded for Nigerians (share up 2.2 percentage points) and Bangladeshi and Guineans (up 1.6 percentage points each). There was also considerable growth in relative terms in the number of applicants from Turkey, Venezuela, Côte d’Ivoire, as well as from Eritrea and Albania. The largest relative fall in the number of applicants, among the most common countries of citizenship for asylum seekers in 2017 (except for Syria), was recorded for Afghans, Iraqis and Iranians.

Countries of destination: Germany, Italy and France the main
With 198 thousand applicants registered in 2017, Germany accounted for 31 % of all first-time applicants in the EU-28. It was followed by Italy (127 thousand, or 20 %), France (91 thousand, or 14 %), Greece (57 thousand, or 9 %), the United Kingdom (33 thousand, or 5 %) and Spain (30 thousand, or 5%).

Among Member States with more than 5 thousand first-time asylum seekers in 2017, the number of applicants compared in relative terms with the previous year rose most in Spain (+96 %, or 15 thousand more first-time asylum seekers in 2017 than in 2016), France (+19 %, or 14 thousand more), Greece (+14 %, or 7 thousand more) and Italy (+4 %, or 5 thousand more). In contrast, the largest relative decreases were recorded in Germany (-73 %, or 520 thousand less first-time asylum seekers in 2017 than in 2016), Austria (-44 %, or 18 thousand less), the Netherlands (-17 %, or 3 thousand less) and the United Kingdom (-15 %, or 6 thousand less) (see Figure 3).

Only problem with that is getting asylum as a Nigerian is very slim. It's more of the applicant proving that he/she is not an economic migrant.

You are talking about official numbers; if there's anything that is sure about the USA, it is the fact that the government is clueless about the amount of undocumented immigrants in the country. In 2015 there were 2.1 million Africans known to the government, yet that figure does not include those who came in through passports from another country, those who crossed from Mexico, those whose visitors visa expires and so on. Remember there are several tools such as surveys, anonymous questionnaires, database from private NGOs that we audit and so on, which reveals nationalities of the respondents. I'm sorry can't reveal much more than that, just know that official numbers are only part of the total picture.

This is a lame cop-out as far as I can tell. There I was reading with the hope of learning something new.

Either you have the figures or you don't. Coming out in public with numbers that cannot be verified doesn't help your argument, mysterious NGO or not.

Until such a time when new and verifiable figures are presented from a credible source, people will continue with those provided by the government.

Have always wondered how many Nigerians are living in US illegally ?. I know we have over 200.000 Nigerians in Chicagoland and a sizeable number of them are undocumented some of whom I know personally. I always tell them to go and get married to obtain their papers because the bigot in the WH won't mind to send them back to Nigeria if they ever get caught. Plus who wants to live in a country with fear of getting caught and deported.

Deportation is a long process. If uncle T holds u, you lawyer up .

This particular point of entry is not a legal border crossing by any means and people who cross it are arrested on the Canadian side; they are informed well ahead by CBSA agents of the consequences of crossing illegally right there.

There are efforts underway to close these illegal entry points or turn them into proper POEs though but with the Liberals in power, those efforts don't appear to be moving fast enough. Yes, the suspicion of other motives is valid.
