ADEKUNLE, THE HEIR!

That saying, “there’s a thin line between life and death”, brought to my memory the incident that made me who I am today. Adekunle said, as he narrated his ordeal to me.

Adekunle was born into a family of 3. Being the only son, he was given preferential treatment by his parent. He attended one of the best primary and secondary school in the area.

After his graduation from secondary school, he was lucky enough to get admitted into university after writing his first Joint Admissions and matriculation board exam. He resumed his first semester like every other student, but got carried away with all the activities and freedom on campus.
That marked the beginning of his calamity as his grade began to dance in the mud. By his second year, he had joined various groups, one of which tagged themselves “Campus Boss”. He skipped lectures to attend various parties held on campus and move around at other times with his clique.

Students, they say, “at the end of their academic careers, should be found worthy both in character and learning”. Adekunle's case was totally different. He possessed non of theses attributes. Only if school was a place of social worthiness!...he would have emerged a first class student.
He became a hot potato on campus.

It was another Friday night as the clique prepared for their usual Friday clubbing. Every one dressed in the best of their attires, to impress ladies and people in general.

They drove recklessly, shouting at the peak of their voices, drinking and making merriment at the same time.
Suddenly, the driver lost control of the car and plowed into a guardrail. He slammed the break, but alas! It was late. He barely had a chance to scream before everything went blank.

Adekunle awoke on hospital bed, tremendous in pain as he couldn’t move any part of his body. His parent were already at the hospital, as they were summoned immediately the victims got to the emergency unit. He was a survivor as others had bitten the dust.

After six months, he was discharged but with challenges. Ever since then, he was nothing but a burden to his family as he became a living dead.

Only if he had known, he would have excused himself from that night’s party.
It’s just a thin line between life and death. No one knows when, where or how it will happen but we all have to be careful to avoid walking the plank.
