The Australian Labradoodle is one of the world’s major crossbred dog species, it is also called a Labrapoodle.

The term Australian Labradoodle or Labrapoodle first appeared in the late 1950’s before it was then made more popular in 1988 when it was then being used as a hypoallergenic guide dog.

This dog breed became known when Australian breeder Wally Conron crossed the Labrador retriever dog and theStandard Poodle dog breed at the Royal Guide Dogs Association of Australia (RGDAA) in Victoria.

What is Australian Labradoodle?

Australian Labradoodle or Labrapoodle is a specie of dog gotten from the crossbreeding of Labrador retriever and standard or toy poodle.

History of the Australian Labradoodle

The Australian Labradoodle was first heard of in 1955, but became well known in 1988. This dog breed was discovered by an Australian breeder who is in the person of Wally Conron.

He made this possible by crossbreeding the Labrador retriever and the standard poodle specie of dogs.

His objective for crossbreeding the dog was to create a new species of dog that would not affect people who are allergic to dog fur.

This Australian dog specie are now being used as guide dogs for the blinds, especially those blind people that do not like coming in contact with dog fur.

Conron got this idea after he observed a dog called Sultan which worked as a guide for a woman living in Hawaii for over 10 years, after watching this dog, he then decided to create a new breed just like the Sultan but using already existing dog species.

The Association for the Blind of Western Australia has introduced Labradoodles into their training program, and this dogs are now popularly used as guide and therapy dogs for those with sight difficulties around the world.

Objective for breeding the Australian Labradoodle

The main purpose of breeding this dogs is so that they can provide guide and assistance to the blind owners.

This dog is bred and recognized by the Labradoodle Association of Australia and the international Australian Labradoodle Association.

The Norwegian crown prince and princess currently own a Labradoodle.

Types of Australian Labradoodle

Almost all Australian Labrapoodle are the same, so sometimes it is very challenging to point out which type or category one belongs to or how one differs from the other but a lot of people prefer the f1 hybrids which are bred from poodle and Labrador.

Another type is also the Multigenerational Labradoodle, which are those types that due to other dogs they have come in contact with for generations, they have mated to produce offspring’s which are a little bit different from the original crossbred Labradoodle.

Appearance and Temperament of Australian Labradoodle

The dog is one of the friendliest, clean and easy going dogs in the world.

They love playing and being around children a lot and they are also very easy to train.

It is very sociable, playful, clever, joyful, quick to learn and one of the few smart dog species in the world.

The undisciplined ones can at some point try to outsmart the owner, so it is advisable you always train the dog very well both physical and mentally.

This dog hardly gets dirty, but make sure to wash its body always, because it can easily store dirt on its body.

Health of Australian Labradoodle

As we all know, everything that has blood running in it must at one point fall sick or encounter one health challenge or the other and the Australian Labrapoodle is no exception.

This dog encounters health issues such as hip dysplasia, it can also have eye disorder, elbow dysplasia which is also very similar to hip dysplasia.

At some point it will also have other minor health issues like Vonwilabrands, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), Multifocal Retinal Dysplasia (MRA), HD, and patella disorders.

To prevent or control all this sickness, always take the dog to veterinary doctor for /radiography/, and an eye specialist. And most importantly always feed the dog with a good balanced meal or feed.

Food/Diet of the Australian Labradoodle

The best way to know the best kind of diet to feed to your Australian Labradoodle is to consult a veterinary practitioner so that he or she can give you the list of best possible food and diet for your dog.

But from my own research, giving the Labradoodle 2 to 3 cups of food every day between two meal times maybe one or two in the early morning hours and then one in the evening
