Pregnancy is a special period for a woman and her unborn baby. Therefore, if you are pregnant it is advisable that you take extra care while choosing anything you eat. Pregnancy affects your immune system and makes you and your child more susceptible to food borne diseases. Here is the list of fruits to avoid if you want the best for your child.
1. Papaya (unripe paw-paw): Papaya intake apparently brings on early labour and causes miscarriage. Papaya's especially the unripe and semi-ripe ones are rich in latex which trigger uterine contractions so papaya should be avoided. However ripe paw-paw are excellent during pregnancy because they are rich in vitamins that prevent some pregnancy symptoms such as heartburn and constipation. Papaya mixed with honey and milk are good for pregnant women especially during lactation
2. Pineapple: consuming pineapple during pregnancy is not advisable because it contains bromelain which can cause the softening of the cervix leading to early labour. One can have pineapple in moderate quantities as it will not have any effect on labour and delivery but it's intake should be restricted during the first trimester to avoid any unforseen event such as softening of cervix. For this reason pineapple should be avoided.
