Article By Opeyemi Komolafe HEY........STOP THAT!! Yes, you......stop it!!!! What is that thing, now a habit that is sabotaging the achievement of your goals? What is that activity that you love so much that is a hindrance to you taking the timely and calculated steps towards the achievement of your life's purpose. They are not always bad things. They might appear to be harmless little actions or habits that make you do the opposite of pursuing your life's goal. For me, it is television. I loooooooooove TV!!!!! I always tell myself that it helps me unwind and relax after a long hard day so the hours I spend watching tv are slotted under the section of 'work/life balance' or 'helping Ope relax and prevent her from pulling her hair from the roots.' Watching tv is not necessarily bad, but its effects on me became glaring after a recent decision by my husband that cable network would not be subscribed to during the school term. You see, my daughter picked some of my habits and always found it difficult to focus on school work as long as a tv is switched on in the house. This drove my husband's insistence on no cable tv. I was very upset because I love medical drama and law drama series. However, I noticed that during the 'down' periods, I read more literature, write more articles, service more constructive relationships, in short, I was more productive during those long hours I had previously allocated to 'unwinding in front of the tv.' This was a serious wake up call for me. What is that task or activity that slows your pace of achievement down? Which habit is it that ensures that your goals continue to be unreachable?
