THE DM (DIRECT MESSAGE) GAME...

Sliding into a DM is walking into a person's personal space & for professionals, it's like walking into our office...

When U walk into a person's office or personal space, everything U say & do during the very first moments (minutes) are crucial.

1. *KEEP IT SHORT AND SIMPLE.*
If you want to be friendly, just exchanging pleasantries, keep it short and simple. Don't talk (type) too much. Say a hello and move on.
*Example:*
* Hello SOBA, I love what you do and love listening to your shows. Keep it UP. (God bless you!

2. *STAY AWAY FROM EMOJIS.*
Some people can be very annoying with their excessive use of emoticons. You are only permitted to do so if the person is your friend, or you've established a type of relationship that permits such.

3. TYPE IN FULL!
If you can't spell, don't bother. These crazy short forms of writing might just leave the person exasperated in the process, that is if they are patient enough to read it through. PS. Not everyone was blessed with the patience to figure out what you're saying.

4. BE FORMAL.
Don't start with "Hello Dearie" "Hey Love" "What's Up" "Hi Dear" "Babe" "Chic" "Guy" etc. Learn proper manners, know how to address a person. If they are older, Ma/Sir or Mr/Mrs/Ms would do. If U can't tell if they're older or not, for a Lady, "Ma'am" would do.

5. DON'T ACT OVER FAMILIAR.
Just because you see them on TV, listen to them over the radio, read their books, buy their albums, or because they live a few blocks away from you, worship in the same Church, Mosque etc. Doesn't mean you know them. Be civil & seasoned with respect.

6. DO NOT "CYBER STALK"
Some people DM U on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. Thereafter, they proceed to emailing U as well, all to get your attention. Don't forget that a person has the exclusive right to use their BLOCK button as they please. Do not be ur own stumbling block.

Most people have moved up d career ladder, gotten a break through, many have found their life partners & forged business partnerships, through the Direct Message portal. Ur opener (d first three words/sentence), determines if U are going to get a reply or not. Choose them wisely.
