The importance of branding to any business is one that cannot be overemphasized. It can be quite difficult, especially if you have very little knowledge on how to go about it. This is why you need to get the right people to work for you, or get the right information to get it right yourself. I will be sharing 5 tips to help get your brand right at the early stage of your business.

1. A brand goes beyond a logo
A brand is that gut feeling that people have about your business. Once you can get two or more people to feel the same way about your product, then you have a brand! Design helps to create this feeling and it starts with a brand mark which is the logo. Now you need to think of the logo as the face/icon of your brand rather than as the entire body of the brand. Mission statements, clear vision, brand values are a good place to start from when building your brand.

2. Understand your audience
Identifying and understanding your audience is key in branding. Not only this, you need to understand the industry and your competitors. Analyse the industry and single out what makes your product stand out and attractive to your customers. The clearer the picture, the better you will become at building a brand that stays in power and flow with what and who matters the most.

3. Be consistent
So, you’ve been able to come up with a fan base that likes what you do for a reason. If you are not consistent at this, then you are surely not going be able to keep up for long. Your customers will be expecting more of what you do that makes them stick with you. Even if it means losing sometimes (I know no one likes that), try to stay true and consistent. Being inconsistent will only make you less identifiable and lost in the crowd.

4. Create a story
If you look at most successful brands that we have today, they all have strong and moving backstory. A story that is only unique to them. This can be their work ethics, how the business began, or a problem they encountered while growing. This story will help you to shape your brand and tone your voice. It may even influence your business name.

5. Live and breathe your brand
Your brand should influence the tone of your emails, the way you answer phone calls, treat your clients, and your blog posts. All these are ways in which you need to represent your brands. Let people see the values of your brands through you and your employees.
