In fulfilment of his campaign promise to ensure food security, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has inaugurated a cassava processing factory in Ikot Ekang, Abak Local Government Area of the State.

The five-metric-tonne cassava processing mill was commmissoned today amidst celebration by former Governor of Benue State, Mr. Gabriel Suswam.

But I have some concerns. Where is the feeder farm that would be providing the cassava to be processed. The entire land at Ikot Ekang AKADEP station can't produce upto 200 tonnes of cassava in a year. Given the production capacity of this plant, if another source of cassava is not available, it would soon go moribund like the one established in early 2000s at Ibesikpo Asutan by Obong Victor Attah's administration.
