Technology in its real sense did not intend to displace humans in their areas of basic endeavor, rather, it has come to relief us in some rigorous and technical tasks thereby helping us execute some tasks really very quick and easy. But how about secretaries, does technology really change anything. Are secretaries indeed relieved from certain clerical tasks. Is technology supposed to take over every of a secretaries function, will it work for every organisation. These are some of the questions will be answering as we go on to analyse how technology have impacted the secretarial duty, officially.

What Duties do Secretaries Perform:
Duties of secretaries vary from one organisation to another however, some functions are very common among organisational setting. Some of them include;

Office Assistants: Secretaries serve as clerical assistants to the office. They run clerical and corporate errands for the enterprise. They also keep minutes of official meetings of the organization. Some can even go as far as making orders for office needs and sometimes work materials.

Coordination: Secretaries also help make sure that information that goes in and out of the organization is well coordinated. They receive and give basic information of and to visitors to the organisation, they receive mails, phone call, letters, fax and telegrams that relates to the organisation.

Has technology Changed The Work Pattern Of Secretaries?
Not entirely. Technology, despite the very different phases may not be able to perform the human aspect of a secretarial function. Recently, some organisation or perhaps individuals have employed the services of digital office assistants or digital personal assistants respectively. Infact some businesses have leveraged on that making it a business phase. Howbet, this has not replaced the services of a human secretary. Secretaries sometimes have to make certain decisions at some point unbehalf of the organization. Obviously technology may not do all of that accurately the way humans will.

How will Employing digital Assistants Affect Organisations
The limitations of technology in clerical services cannot be over emphasized. Infact, not only will many businesses not be able to afford these technologies, it has also impacted negatively on the human communication potentials. The organisation will rely more on machines for information dissemination on issues that might require human communication. So while it may be efficient for some organisation, it may frustrate some others.

Conclusively, technology is a very great invention in the human history. It has influenced how tasks and daily activities are run from the interpersonal level to the organisational level. However, over reliance on these technologies for every of the human task especially in the organisation may end up frustrating the organisation and its productivity.
