The Fulani Herdsmen crisis remains a major issue in Nigeria. So far, thousands have been killed and many more have been expelled from their homes, and the Nigerian government does not appear willing to initiate any forceful action against them. Rather, they are requesting for pieces of land from states in order to provide the rampaging herdsmen with permanent feeding ground.
We believe the focus should be on modernisation of cattle rearing which will maximize the benefits therein in terms of job creation, food security, and eventually end the vexatious farmers/ herdsmen conflicts.
India , China , USA , Pakistan and countries with large populations depend on milk and dairy products to fight hunger , malnutrition , unemployment and promote social harmony.
India is a good example with an annual production of 163 million metric tonnes of milk which is about 10 % of worlds output .
In India , cattle are reared within the confines of village communities , and farmers cooperatives , mainly for milk production and rarely for the meat . The attachment to the cattle in India is so strong that it is called mother , which in a sense is true because the cow provides food and nourishment for the country ’s huge population .
The European dairy farm model is also within confined paddocks which in most cases are not much bigger than a football pitch . The animal fodder is grown on location or in other farms which specialize in growing hays, grains and other animal feeds .
Our project
We believe that the production of cattle should be modernised. Our aims for this project are
-To provide quality feed for cattle farmers at highly subsidized rate all year round.
-To provide more job employment
-To increase food production in the country
-To prevent clash between farmers and herdsmen thereby saving lives.
HOW WE INTEND TO CARRY THIS OUT
We are looking to acquire a large area of land in different states across the country to cultivate pasture crops for production of highly nutritious hays in very large quality , which we plan to supply to cattle farms across the country at very affordable rate. This is not intended for profit making, the amount to be charged is for the management/maintenance of the pasture land and equipments. If this project is successful, we believe it will lead to an increase in Animal production and peace in the society.
So we are looking to engage with a reputable charity to make this project possible. Please do write back to me if you need more information.
We aren't specifically asking the federal government for funding of this project, what we require is your accreditation so we will be able to raise money for this project through national /global crowd funding. We need the support of the Ministry of Agriculture for this to happen. Creating more ranch isn't a lasting solution to this problem, providing other food sources that'll limit the requirements of grazing will. We also plan to set up a biotechnology center to study pasture crops and how to improve their yield. This will be a big boost for the Agricultural sector and the country as a whole.
