Employees are the most valuable asset of any Organization. With the right employees, things will naturally move in the right direction. But when an organization has bad employees, such organization will suffer a lot. However, this article will focus on 11 attitudes of a problem employee.

Nothing is as irritating as a problematic employee. As a matter of fact, they can drain an Organization financially. According to a recent research by Center for Creative Leadership “A Problem employee can cost an organization a lot. As they erode trust, reduce output and innovation, lower the motivation and lack of cohesion of their work group.

Furthermore, it is advisable to always disengage any problem employee once detected. The 11 attitudes of a problem employee discussed below will enable you to fish out all the bad eggs in your basket.

11 Attitudes Of a Problem Employee

Employees are advised to always evaluate their attitudes to ascertain If they fall in this category. If so, try to turn a new leaf, otherwise you may be a victim of retrenchment.

The first attitude that is peculiar to all problem employees is poor job performance. They claim to know everything, but in reality, they know nothing. These category of employees can’t work with a team and they renowned for their rebellious behavior, even towards their boss.

#1 Poor Job Performance

One of the attitudes of a problem employee is bad attitude. They always under perform and fail to meet their expectations. They never take responsibility for their poor job performance, rather there is always an excuse for not doing the job right.

So, if you are under performing in your work place, it is one of the attitudes of a Problem employee. Try to improve on your performance, otherwise the organization may disengage you as an employee.

#2 Doesn’t work well with others

If you can’t work amicably with a team, you are a problem employee. Once you discover that nobody wants to work with you or your colleagues are giving you cold shoulder, try to check yourself. It could be as a result of your problematic attitude. You better fix it before it fixes you.

#3 Not Responsive To Coaching

Problem employees are very stubborn and do not respond to coaching. They neither listen nor accept feedback, they see themselves as Mr. and Mrs. know it all.

According to the Center for Creative Leadership, they are “impervious” to any coaching or criticism and fail to make recommended improvements by their bosses.

#4 Resistant to Change

This is also among the attitudes of a problem employee. He fails to recognize the fact that change is inevitable. They are not dynamic and find it difficult to adapt to new situation.

Once you start to resist change directly or indirectly, it is an indication that you are a problem employee. Learn to acknowledge the dynamism in the business world and accept new situation as they come.

#5 Never Takes Ownership

If you have worked with a problem employee before, you will understand this particular point. They can never take responsibility for their poor performance, rather they blame people around them.

Sometimes we all perform poorly at work for one reason or the other. But try to take responsibility for your action, and take note of your mistakes.
