The Brazilian international’s £52m move from Shakhtar Donetsk has been officially confirmed after the final details of his contract were agreed and his work permit secured.
Mourinho acted quickly to land the 25-year-old, who had been a target for Manchester City.


The United manager was determined to find a replacement for the retiring Michael Carrick - making it his priority to sign a top quality midfielder.


Mourinho has already completed the signing of Portuguese right back Diogo Dalot and also wants a centre back, another midfielder and a versatile forward.
He believes Fred is a key addition in what will be a busy summer.

Mourinho said: “Fred will complement our other midfielders' qualities, which we need; his creative brain and passing vision will give us another dimension to our game. I am very happy he is joining our club and I believe our players know how important he can be in our team.”
