Police finally arrest SARS men who raided, brutalised 20 university students in Ondo

- The arrest of five Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) who invaded a hostel in Adekunle Ajasin University in Ondo state has been confirmed by the police command in the state

- The spokesperson of the command, Femi Joseph, said that the commissioner of police, Gbenga Adeyanju, has demanded the full investigation of the development

- Joseph also said that the suspects are being interrogated in the bid to determine the degree of their involvement in the crime

The police command in Ondo has arrested five of its operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) who on Monday, June 18, allegedly brutalised not less than 20 students of Adekunle Ajasin University located in the Akungba Akoko area of the state.

The arrested SARS men, according to Femi Joseph, the spokesman of the command, included one inspector and four officials from different ranks, Daily Trust reports.

Joseph said that the commissioner of police in the state, Gbenga Adeyanju, has demanded thorough investigation into the development.

He said the suspects were being interrogated by the command in a bid to ascertain their level of involvement in the crime.

Joseph said: "Three students that were arrested has been released and the CP has ordered full investigation and after the investigation if the policemen were found guilty, they would definitely pay for it; we don't allow indiscipline in this command.”

"I also want to use this medium to call on any of the students who were brutalised to come to my office with evidence and I promised we won't spare any officer found culpable.”


The police spokesperson said the command needs the evidence to prosecute the officers for the offence, adding that “any crime without witness and evidence is dead on arrival.”

Earlier, NAIJ.com reported that some men of Ondo state police command, attached to the SARS on Monday, June 18, allegedly brutalised not less than 20 students of Adekunle Ajasin University.

NAIJ.com gathered that eyewitness account had it that the policemen invaded the hostel in a commando-like manner without any respect for the privacy of the students. He said the policemen told them that they were searching for some cult members in the hostel.
