Three Steps To Successful Online Music Promotion In 2018 by jejeafrica: 10:49am On Jun 23, 2018
Truth be told, if you want any product, brand, music or event to spread like a wildfire then promoting it online is a compulsory step every serious minded individual (Independent Or Label Bound) must take. The internet is the biggest market place and have been designed to introduce millions of new products/brands everyday.

The main reason why I personally encourage online promotion for independent artist is that if creates an opportunity for you to reach out to people including those who don’t know about your existence. In Nigeria we have a population of over 170million people out of which 80million are constant internet users, if you are able to reach 30% of this mass, you would be a mega star before you realize it and the keys which I am going to use in teaching you this is; Target, Systematic Approach and Investment.

Now let’s take a critical look at the three keys/steps to achieve a successful online music promotion in Nigeria and any part of the world.

Promotion Targeting To Attract Listeners:

In order to achieve a successful online music promotion as an artist gaining targeted listeners should be your primary objective, this is because only listeners will want to share, download, buy or support your music. Only listeners would attend your shows, tag your music to trending topics, Make social media videos with your music and draw a vast attention to you as an artist.

Checkout the likes of Wizkid, Davido, Mayorkun, Ycee or even Slimcase who appears to be new in the game, these guys have built a separate market for themselves, People listening to davido’s music are not completely the same people listening to Wizkid. In a family of four people they both have at least one listener truly interested in their content and that is why when they put out a song without meaning their listeners will still buy, download, share and even attend their shows.

N/B: The more targeted listeners you have, the more influential and rich you become.

2. Systematic Approach To Promotion:

It’s okay to post your music on just one of the big blogs like Naijaloaded, Notjustok and tooxclusive and relax but you’ve to understand that its not being systematic. Listeners need to have multiple access points to your music, when your name or the title of your song is typed on any search engine listeners should we able to choose which website or interface is best for them.

Also every music blog have their unique users, you could gain lots of new fans as your music appear on their pages.

3. RICH CONTENT SAMPLE DELIVERY:

The reason why most new artist do not make it to the A-Sales list is that they are too stiff with dishing out content for free. You want to sell your song like Olamide, Kiss Daniel and Tiwa Savage but you forget that this people have big companies backing them. Their songs get played on virtually every radio and TV station giving their listeners an avenue to listen to what they are about purchasing.

As an upcoming artist don’t just think about money deliver rich content to your consumers, let them understand that your music is all about quality and not extortion and in doing this online, they should have a way of streaming your music for free, downloading it and while you grow they will eventually seek for link to buy other songs.

You can also license your song for use on television, film, advertising, websites, video games and other multimedia; this will help the movers and shakers of the music industry to notice you.
