Qualcomm has recently released a new Snapdragon processor tagged Qualcomm Snapdragon 850. Quite exquisite right! Don’t get your hopes too high already, it’s not for smartphones. The chipset was designed to power laptops and 2-in-1 tablets. In performance, it more like an upgrade to the Snapdragon 845 version seen on modern flagship smartphones, albeit coming with better speed and battery boost.

The 835 chip previously used in Windows-on-ARM devices is also seen on some Android smartphones, so anything is possible. But Qualcomm specifically launched the chip on the main tablet body with a foldable keyboard, according to the video released. The tablets running on the 850 will have a better cooling system than smartphones running on 845.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 features Kryo 385 Gold cores clocked at an impressive speed of 2.95 GHz. The 850 also promises a 30% boost in performance and 20% better battery life, this is however compared to Snapdragon 835 powered laptops.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 will offer lots of perks on devices that run on it. This includes a “multi-day” battery life, with the X20 LTE modem pushing the downlink speeds up to 1.2 Gbps. It also supports HDR and aptX HD audio.

On a plus note, Microsoft recently updated ARM Windows with 64-bit Edge, allowing the 850 chip to work seamlessly on Windows.
