RE: FG may lose over 1bn in alleged Amnesty fraud

The attention of Delta Youths Network (DYN) has been drawn to a spurious publication credited to Critical Coalition Against Corruption (CCAC)- in the online edition of Wednesday's vanguard, 2018.

Considering the wrong impression created by the publication to the Niger Delta and of course to students whose academic pursuit have been thrown into unavoidable jeopardy, Delta Youths Network wishes to respond as follows:

1. That Prof Charles Q Dokubo, should disregard the statement credited to Critical Coalition Against Corruption (CCAC) in trying to play politics with the future of promising Niger Delta youths.

2. The group, however, in their statement alleged the existence of fraud and irregularities in the deployment of beneficiaries for the 2017/2018 academic session of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, we condemn this statement in its entirety. No youths in the Niger Delta is vulnerable, and we advise CCAC to desist from this unguarded and pernicious narrative in derailing youths from the Niger Delta.

3. We want to make it very clear that any Niger Delta youth who finds his or her way into any university home and abroad even though they are not in the database of the Amnesty Programme should be accorded the benefit to pursue their academic dreams.

It is very worrisome when faceless groups in the Niger Delta blight people from their region trying to secure a better future. No one has the monopoly to question the authenticity of Niger Delta youths studying under the Amnesty Programme.

There are no doubt academic obstacles evident, in the Niger Delta region that is the proverbial goose that lays the golden egg and if such a privilege is given to Niger Delta youths to pursue their academic dreams, no one should have mixed reactions rather they should applaud this gesture.

These are the kind of programmes the Awolowo's of blessed memory initiated for the Yorubas, for them to attain indelible academic feats.

However, we do not hold brief for the predecessors of the amnesty boss and Prof Charles Q Dokubo, but we will not allow anyone to play cheap politics to the detriment of Niger Deltans academic deficiency.

What we expect is for CCAC to make press statements for these innocent Niger Delta youths in spite not being in the Amnesty Data base should be given full incentives as the ones that are in the data base have.

Also, we need not to remind CCAC that there are impacted communities in the Amnesty blueprint, and these Niger Delta youths they attributed in their careless statement of being vulnerable that are not in the database of the Amnesty Programme could be from impacted communities.

In any case, they are Niger Deltans and not an alien that ought not to benefit for a programme meant for the Niger Delta region. Therefore, we call on the Special Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Prof Charles Q Dokubo to disregard these unhealthy claims of CCAC and commit his energy of how he can start paying these Niger Delta students their monthly stipends.
