Street Soccer specialists, 401 Road Planners of Ajegunle last weekend emerged the winners of the maiden Gulder Ultimate Five-a-Side tournament rounded up at the mobile Astro Turf of the National Stadium, Lagos.  The team achieved the feat after a 3-2 win over after hard fighting Talent Builders FC of Island in a pulsating final match played before a capacity crowd.
The runner up had beaten the winner in the round robin qualification matches and were set to repeat the feat but failed to lift their game in spite of vociferous fans that were rooting for them from the commencement of the match.
After a goalless first half, Kabiru Nosiru  got the opener for Talent Builders few minutes into the second half and the team had several opportunities to double the lead but wasted the chances even failed to make use of the their opponent’s one man down for a foul challenge.  However with few minutes left of play, Okuoka Happiness equalized for Road Planners from penalty spot to level the score to 1-1 at full time and took the game to the mandatory penalty shoot- out and while Talent Builder’s goal keeper Ahmed Ajagbe stopped two kicks, his opposing number, Oguomah Daniel stopped three kicks to win the match for his team.
The win thus made the Ajegunle based team the winner of the Ultimate N5 million cash prize while the runners up had N2 million for their effort.  Royal Eagles of Warri beat hard fighting Royal FC of Aba by a lone goal to pick the bronze medal and earn a N1 million for the effort.
Kabiru Nosiru of Talent Builders won the Most Valuable Player of the tournament while Okuoka Happiness of 401 Road Planners was the Highest Goal Scorer of the competition.
In his closing remarks, the Marketing Director of Nigerian Breweries, Jacco Van der Linden, commended all the teams that took part in the competition for their conduct through out the competition from the zonal stage up to the final event in Lagos.
“To us at Nigerian Breweries, all the participants are winners in their own right while 401 Road Planners are the Ultimate winners among the contestants and we have bigger plans for all the participants next year,” he commended.
Over 750 teams participated in the competition across the nation and all the players are non Professional and Amateur league participants.
