Respect is a positive feeling or action shown towards someone or something. Respect is one of the most important relationships with anyone and there is no exception when it comes to your relationship with yourself.

Respect cannot be forced; it can only be earned. Being rude, harsh or ill-mannered would only make people fear and avoid you. They do not really respect you.

What self-respect is not
1. Pride: unreasonable or inordinate feeling about one’s self
2. Arrogance: an overbearing attitude or feeling of superiority towards others
3. Narcissism: a negative show of love/obsession with yourself
4. Conceited: an exaggerated feeling of self-importance
5. Selfish: concerned chiefly about yourself and your advantage to the exclusion of others.

Self-respect is the pride and confidence in one’s self; a feeling that is behaving with honor and dignity. Now, this doesn’t make you self-narcissist, conceited or arrogant. There is a thing line between self-respect and pride and you have to not it

• Self-respect encompasses a multitude of ideals, but it comes down to being the kind of person that you are satisfied with showing the world.

• Self-respect is about being the person you and your loved ones are proud of and are pleased with.

• Self-respect being happy with what you see in the mirror.

• Self-respect is about treating others well with the mindset that you can

• Self-respect is about having a sense of dignity about yourself, your choices, your life.

• If you are not proud of yourself, what you have done or who you are then you’re compromising your values or selling yourself short.

• Its possible for people to respect you and you don’t feel the same way about yourself, then you need to learn to improve your level of self-esteem. This is a great indicator of how you are positioning yourself which you are yet to see.

• It’s okay for you to respect yourself more than people around you do, that way it’s almost impossible for anybody to bring you down.

• Self-respect doesn’t mean ignoring the opinions of family and friends around you,
especially when too many people are pointing out a certain aspect of your life. You don’t have to do a 360-degree change in your personality but then you need to sit back, think and consider whether or not they are correct about their observations.
