Wife-battering Oba of Akure, Mr. Oluwadare Adesina, has been deposed as the Deji of Akure by the Ondo State Government.The government of Ondo State announced his deposition after the weekly state executive meeting in Akure, and the taxi cab driver-turned-traditional ruler of Akure may also be banished from the city any moment from now. The Deji last week battered his second wife, Olori Bolanle Adesina, after pouring unknown chemical substances on her which led to severe burns all over her body.
The deposition of Adesina is coming on the heels of the announcement last night by the Nigerian police that he would face criminal charges for the assaulting. The police, who initially shielded him and claimed the incident was merely a "domestic violence" issue, recanted after much public pressure which condemned the Oba’s action.
