Many Nigerian Youths have constantly raised a notion on how messed up the National Youth Service Corp scheme has been, interestingly, it is the only thing after graduation that satisfies you as a full-blown higher institution graduate. A 3-weeks camping activity and a one-year practice afterwards that leaves you no option than to obey the 'clarion call' and serve your fatherland anywhere you find yourself. To what achievement? The 'NYSC' green certificate.

Over the years the scheme has attracted criticism from Nigerian Youths mostly on it's procedures and logistics involved. Part of the claim to buttress their point is: 'The Pay'. Many youths have lent their voices to the appropriate channels calling out for the increment of the monthly N19,800 "alawee' stipend paid by the Federal Government to serving corp members. Reason being that the money is rather too small to cover up expenses and other miscellaneous needs of an average corper following the high standard of living in the country due to the rise in economic value.

Irrespective of the small amount corpers receive, most times the payment is delayed.

The second reason is curled from the pattern at which inter-State postings is conducted. Many have lost their lives trying to travel as far away from their region to another in course of service, others have sustained injury or encountered one circumstances or the other.

Amongst all these reasons, there are others who will beat their chest and say..... truly the scheme, irrespective of how unfavorable it has been is still manageable. One of the recent claims emanate from an OAP who happens to share her success story about her days as a corper.
