For a very long time, we have been told that wearing a bra is the proper thing to do. How could you possibly go about your day with your nipples shooting out like headlamps, especially if you are not asking for sex?
However, in the light of recent studies, one must ask if bras are essential clothing items or mere articles worn for the sake of propriety.
French experts say that not wearing a bra might do you a world of good. They say that apart from the sweet comfort we feel when the bra comes off after a long day (can I get an ‘Amen?), constantly wearing a bra could be weakening your muscles. We have believed all this while that wearing a bra keeps gravity from making our breasts sag but these experts say that wearing a bra stops the breast muscles from strengthening and if we let them go free, they will be able to ‘fight’ gravity on their own and remain perky.
In spite of this, other experts still say that the rate at which breasts droop is dependent on a lot of factors such as age, activities, breast size (fuller breasts drop faster), bra type etc. and so saying that going braless is the answer is not conclusive.
Meanwhile, many women have complained of inability to breathe properly, back pains and skin reactions as a result of friction. This is why it is advised that women don’t use too tight bras and get the right size to ensure breast health.
People in the pro-bra camp say that bras help with spine structure and back posture while those who kick against bra use say that going braless is even a lot cheaper.
Obviously, it is not clear-cut what one should do but whatever you choose, put your health first. Don’t go for either merely because you want to go with trends.
