NOUN partners FRCN, NTA studios for mass communication students’ practicals

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) associates FRCN, NTA studios for students’ practicals – Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu has climbed a step closer towards grasping studios for the practicals of both radio and television courses by the students of Mass Communication of the university.

In a statement made by Professor Abdallah Adamu, onward with his team holding principal officers, submitted a Mutual of Understanding (MoU) paper to the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mansur Liman, in Abuja.

Following The partnership, according to Adamu, aims to provide NOUN students of mass communication with a parkway for practicals and other tutorials lacking hands on deck for effective training.

However, Practical is a significant component of the study of Mass Communication, and about four of its BMAS (Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard) necessitates a practical presentation of the students. You can picture three to four thousand students, where will they go and do practicals? And we don’t have a laboratory.

Also, A thought came to us that there is a workroom in FRCN and NTA dispersed all over the country, why don’t we appropriate the possibility of building an understanding that our students can use these facilities, MDAs to MDA,” he said.


According to the professor, ensuring a place for NOUN Mass Communication students to move practicals in the course of their education is central to their graduation and NUC accreditation.

Meanwhile, Adamu said, “in view of NOUN community of over 421,000 students unevenly scattered across the country, the national spread of FRCN will enable NOUN students dirtied across the country to access ready studios for practicals easily.”

Prof. Adamu, who had initial took time to adequately furnished his host with the ancient predecessors and dynamism of the university, added that “We hereby solicit your assistance and perception to enable the students of NOUN, where ever they are, when the time comes for them to reach themselves with radio facilities to experience control room, radio ethics, journalism etc, they can use FRCN facilities anywhere in the country as their workroom.”

Moreover, The Adamu insisted that the partnership is exacted not to add any budgetary burden to these students but to reveal them to the practical rudiments of their service.

Adamu then presented a draft MoU of the recognition to the Director General of FRCN, Dr Mansur Liman for his perusal and following consent.

In response, Liman embraced the VC and his delegation for choosing FRCN for the task, which according to him; the radio station is already accommodating its facilities to students of mass communication across the country as a social responsibility.

He added that his team would look at the sketch agreement critically with the goal of implementation.
