EBONYI GOVERNMENT HANDS OVER TWO HEALTH CENTRES TO AE-FUNAI
The Ebonyi State Government has handed over two health centers to the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.
The health centers which are located at the Ebunwana, Afikpo South Local Government Area and Igboji Echara, Ikwo Local Government Area respectively would be used for the purpose of teaching the university’s medical students in the area of rural medicine.

Speaking at the event held at the State Ministry of Health, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba, who was represented by his deputy, Professor Sunday Elom thanked the Ebonyi State Government for approving the take-over of the two primary health centers, noting that they would be used for the training of medical students.

He further expressed his gratitude to the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Daniel H. A. Umezulike for facilitating the approval, adding that the university would renovate and equip the two healthy facilities to National Universities Commission and Medical and Dental Council accepted standards and make them functional for the benefit of both the university and indigenes of the host communities.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Umezulike noted that the event was a symbolic hand-over of two health centers to the university for the purpose of teaching rural medicine to the medical students of the institution.
Expressing his satisfaction on the partnership between the State Government and the University, he said: “We thank you for partnering with the State Government”, adding “We are happy also about the development taking place in the university and we are proud to be associated with the university.”
He stressed that the hand-over of the facilities to the university would strengthen primary health care service delivery in the affected areas and help solve health issues as well as expose the university’s medical students to practical rural medicine .
The event was witnessed by the Provost College of Medicine, Professor Edward Uche-Nwachi, Deputy Provost, Dr. Emeka Ezeonu and Heads of various departments of the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health.
