STEM CELLS AND LONGEVITY

Longevity is related to specific cells called stem cells which have a unique growth characteristic. Two basic types of stem cells are present in the human body:

ADULT STEM CELLS located in some adult tissues can only differentiate into their own or related cell types. These cells act as a repair system for the body but also maintain the normal turnover of regenerative organs such as blood, skin or intestinal tissues. Alas, stem cells become less active and phase off as we grow old, thus the reason adults heal slower than children. It is the reason why a child will undergo a medical procedure and heal in probably a week or two and you as an adult remains on the bed for months, especially if you are old. it is why wrinkles and old age diseases come; weak stem cells.
