DO YOU KNOW?
Blue light exposure may increase the risk of eye defects.
The fact that blue light penetrates all the way to the retina (the inner lining of the back of the eye) is important, because laboratory studies have shown that too much exposure to blue light can damage light-sensitive cells in the retina.
The light from our devices is “short-wavelength-enriched,” meaning it has a higher concentration of blue light than natural light—and blue light affects levels of the sleep-inducing hormone melatonin more than any other wavelength
Spending just two consecutive hours on a digital device can cause eyestrain and fatigue. Sources of blue light include the sun, digital screens (TVs, computers, laptops, smart phones and tablets), electronic devices, and fluorescent and LED lighting.
"But theory has it that red light aids melatonin production," he explains—the hormone that naturally makes you feel drowsier and sleep easily.
